Time to Talk

How many times have you asked your child “What did you do at school today?” and you get the answer “Nothing!” Even though they may have had the most exciting day at school most children choose to answer in the briefest way possible. If you want to encourage your child to think and talk more about their day, here are some conversation starters which need more than one word to answer.

If I called your teacher tonight what would they tell me about you?

Tell me something that happened at school which made you laugh today.

Tell me about three different times you used your pencil today at school.

Tell me something good that happened today.

Where do you play most at playtime/lunchtime? If you got to be the teacher tomorrow, what would you like to teach? Why? Who in your class do you think you could be kinder to?  Why? What do you think you should try harder to improve?
What do you think you should do less of at school? Be honest!

How did you help someone today?

What is your favourite place in school? Tell me the most interesting word you heard today.  Do you know what it meant?
