Reception Notice Board

Welcome to the Reception Notice Board

Current Learning Focus

This half term, we are exploring the theme - Terrific Tales

This half term, Reception are exploring the theme “Terrific Tales”, including classic stories such as The Gingerbread Man, Goldilocks and the Three Bears, The Three Little Pigs, Jack and the Beanstalk, Little Red Riding Hood, and The Three Billy Goats Gruff. Children are developing confidence, independence, and communication skills through storytelling, discussions, and creative activities, while learning to work positively with others and follow instructions.

In Phonics and Literacy, children are writing their names, making predictions, retelling simple events, and beginning to read and write short sentences. In Maths, they are exploring numbers 0–8, making different compositions of 5, comparing mass and capacity, and finding doubles to 8. Children are also expressing themselves through art, music, and role-play, including weaving, pancake-making, and acting out the stories.

Enrichment and Understanding the World includes discussing books from the past and present, learning about celebrations in RE, and exploring similarities and differences in characters and stories.

Ways to Support at Home:

  • Read traditional tales together and discuss characters and events.

  • Visit your local library and borrow storybooks to enjoy together.

  • Practise counting, recognising numbers to 8, and exploring one more/one less.

  • Encourage your child to talk about stories, characters, and everyday experiences.

To find out more about what your child is learning this term, please review our Spring 1 Curriculum Overview.
